1) Be a citizen
Take part in community events, either by sponsoring them ar simply by attending them. Wear that nice company-logo shirt that’s hanging in the back of your closet. People will notice your interest and involvement.
2) Be a partner
Strategic partnerships are crucial to the long-term success of your business. Partner with another area business so that you can offer more value to your customers or simply more value to one another.
3) Be a human being
Get out from behind your computer and spend some time reaffirming your personal relationships. Go out and see your clients and tell them thanks for their business, whether it is past, present, or future.
4) Be a historian
If you are having trouble finding new customers, try reaching out to your old customers. Perhaps they need your product or service again, or perhaps they know somebody else who needs your product or service.
5) Be an expert
Speak at events, produce a newsletter or host a workshop. Anything that identifies you as an expert in your field is an advantage for your company.

Tim,
Great post…and great reminders given the malaise that is haunting many business folks.
My favorite one on the list is the “Be a human”…I think that much could be accomplished if folks stopped worrying about how things may appear. I have yet to meet a perfectly refined person…even ones that are incredibly successful are still human. Relating on that level usually sets a better tone for a genuine exchange of ideas…which is really the point of marketing anyway.
